Ok.so lots of people think this book is a classic and love this book, but, in my personal opinion i think it's very over rated. It's a victorian tale taking place in the Yorkshire Moors with the main charactors of Heathcliffe and Cathy (It's me Cathy etc.)It centres around lust, jeolusy and hatred although combines all these feelings into one. It's a very complicated book and if you read it i thoroughly believe you'll enter a deep depression phase in u'r life. Not to put you off of course. The story involves lots of plots and sub plots but mainly the love story is central of H and C.Heathcliffe is a gypsy boy who is taken in by Cathys Father, he is very rough and dirty although trated as one of the family until the Father dies and Hindley(Cathys brother)takes over the manor and all control, and makes Heathcliffes life hell. So, H moves away and Cathy marries Edgar who lives in asmall holding at the bottom of the estate. But, Cathy realises the mistake she has made specifically when H comes back.Out of jeolousy he marries Edgars sister Isabelle and basically they eventually realise how much they feel for each other after it is too late. Cathy dies and Heathcliffe keeps her body by his side.Yes, it would be called very sick if it was written now. I did this for Alevel so my opinion might be a bit too judgemental. Make u'r own mind up if you feel up the challenge of reading this over rated novel.

rosebud49 - 12/10/01 Great op. I do disagree with you about the movie though. Then again that could be the age showing through. I'm 51 years young and enjoyed it the first time and have enjoyed it everytime I see it which has been many times. |
