Advantages: quirky and fun

Disadvantages: no patterns

I bought this book the other day as I would like to start sewing and making my own things but I need some inspiration. I haven't done a lot of sewing so I wanted something that was fairly basic and wouldn't put me off. I saw this book on Amazon and the reviews were pretty good and it was only £6 so I thought I'd give it a go.

The book is very quirky with a very interesting stylish, quirky design. Things are higgle-de-piggle-de on the pages and images over lap text to make it really interesting to look at and creative.

The book is a bit like a diary and there are a few too many stories and pointless lists for my liking which make it seem like it is trying a bit to hard to be fun and cool.

The ideas themselves though are great. I have got some inspiration from the book but I still dont really know ehere to start as there are no patterns. There are rough scetches of the shapes of things with measurements but these are pointless unless you are the exact same size as the author.

Overall, it's a fairly good book but not quite there in terms of ease of making.

If you want a beginner's guide, go for a second hand copy of Singer Sewing by Mary Picken. You can find copies from 99p off eBay.
