Since I am very interested in African culture, and am related to Nigeria somehow, I really enjoyed this book. This is one of those books written about an African culture without prejudice. Bascom presents a picture of the culture of the one of the most interesting and important people of Africa. You will find a great deal about the Yoruba constituting one of the largest ethnic groups of Western Africa. The Yoruba were also for more than a century the dominant group among Nigeria’s educated elite, providing school teachers, clerks and other white collar workers both in Nigeria and in neighbouring territories.
