This is a book I have just read called Z for Zacharia. Its written by Robert O’Brien. It’s in the form of a diary and is set in the future after an “ATOMIC” war. It starts with a girl called “Ann Burden” who thinks she’s the only person alive on earth after an atomic war. Her family went in search for help but never returned. One day a man with a radiation proof suit comes into her valley but she doesn’t know whether he is a friend or an enemy. She tries to join up with him but they end up fighting for their own survival. Ann thinks he is the last man alive on earth and as a Adam was the name of ... Read the complete review

Z for Zachariah is a novel, written by Robert C. O'Brien, meant for mid-teenagers, but is also a very good story, worth an adult's time too. I remember reading it at school, I must have been 13 or 14, I was captivated from beginning to end. I have had a yearning to read it again so here's my review ..... ~~~~~ Ann Burden is a 15 years old - she is a kind and extremely cautious girl and her ambition is to become a teacher. When Her entire family are killed in a devastating nuclear war, she is left to believe that she is the only person left on earth. The unexpected arrival of the antagonistic Mr Loomis - wearing the earth's only ... Read the complete review

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Ann Burden, a teenage girl living in a small American town, is the only person to survive a nuclear attack. Living alone in the valley of her town, she slowly adapts to solitary life, when she spots a stranger approaching, and things deteriorate into disaster. WAS IT ANY GOOD: This is a book I read at school, and recently picked up again. It's a very strange book, in that 1/3 of it is like a Ray Mears tale of survival, and will appeal to all who enjoy 'castaway' style stories. The novel then takes a more sinister turn upon the arrival of the stranger, an eerie man whose sexual desire overcomes him when he ends up attempting to rape ... Read the complete review

This was a book that I read at school since then I must have read it countless times over. I still love it and will always do so. Written by Robert O?Brien it focuses on a nuclear disaster of some sought. Where its very much the survival of the fittest. We meet a brave 15 year old Ann Burden. Through the first person narrative her character is explored. She believes she is the sole survivor of this tragedy. However, the arrival of Mr. Loomis proves otherwise however soon she realises that she is in a precarious situation. She learns how Mr. Loomis a scientists killed to survive. He has the only suite to protect from radiation. When however he becomes ill ... Read the complete review
