There is nothing more irritating than when a printer manufacturer introduces a new set of unique cartridges for a specific printer. That means that cartridges will be even more expensive and there will be fewer 'third party' alternatives. Canon's BCI 6 range have been around for over three or more years. In fact it is used in many older Canon printers and some of their recent models like the Pixma IP3000.
