Advantages: Cheap and easy to buy. Still used in current range
Disadvantages: Small Capacity
There is nothing more irritating than when a printer manufacturer introduces a new set of unique cartridges for a specific printer. That means that cartridges will be even more expensive and there will be fewer 'third party' alternatives.
Canon's BCI 6 range have been around for over three or more years. In fact it is used in many older Canon printers and some of their recent models like the Pixma IP3000. This means that this cartridge is used across most of their current range and so these are easier to get and can there are many alternatives around too.
Back to this cartridge.
Positives----
- Most of these are individual colours so when one colour runs out you don't have to waste the other colours. In fact the BCI-6 range is made up of separate cartridges each with its own colour
- Relatively cheap to buy at £7 each for the official ones.
- Colour quality is very good and these cartridges are used in their photo range of printers too, so it just goes to show.
- Longevity. As explained above, these cartridges have been around for over four years and so are unlikely to be [hased out soon. So you should be able to get them pretty much anywhere at a competitive price
Negatives----
- Small capacity. I have found that these cartridges run out quite quickly when compared to other makes
- Fiddly to fit. Because they are separate and quite small this makes them a bit more fiddly to fit.
Overall, these cartridges appear to be amongst the cheapest official cartridges on the market and offer solid performance and are likely to be around for a good few years to come.
Summary: Amongst the cheapest OEM Cartridges.
