When I need to buy black ink for my Canon printer this is the one I go for 99 times out of a 100. The only other time is if I am desperate and the shop I am in only has the lower yield, Pg-510. I have paid up to about £28 for the Pg-512 in an office supply store but you can get some really good deals online making it even better value for money.
This ink cartridge should print about 370 pages of normal printing. Personally I find that this lasts me a very reasonable amount of time and is more noticeable than the lower yield one. As with all Canon ink products the quality is of a very high standard and there is never any left way my printer says it has reached empty. I have had the cartridges refilled before but the quality of the ink is noticeably lower. Not necessarily a problem if you are only doing basic printing but it is when printing pictures or more complicated pages.
Installation is very easy. You just have to pull off the orange strip as with other products and it is ready to install in your printer. The packaging always seems a bit too bulky and unnecessary and maybe something that Canon could cut down on.
I would always suggest, money permitting, buying the Pg-512 higher yield and personally think that with the offers available on the internet it is best to stick with the official product,
