Advantages: nice quality
Disadvantages: soon runs out
The HP 300 is a black ink cartridge that costs around £10. I got mine included with the printer I recently bought, and used it for the first (and last) time today.
The cartridge comes in a foil wrapper which opens as easily as a packet of crisps. Even though I have never fitted a cartridge before, it clicked into place so easily I don't think anyone would have any trouble. The cartridge itself is like a little plastic box, very secure looking with no leaky ink escaping onto fingers.
I used the cartridge to print the first draft of my novel (also the reason I bought the printer). As the job began, I was impressed with the strong dark colour of the ink - it looks perfect. It spreads evenly, never smudging or leaking or bleeding across the page.
However, my happiness was short-lived as the cartridge ran out completely after around 150 pages of printing. I couldn't believe it! The pages of typed writing were not as densely spaced as a normal page either, as I left a larger border than usual. I thought they may just be blocked or need a shake, but sure enough the indicator on the printer showed the cartridge was empty!
Well can you believe it? I had to print the rest out in dark blue, and basically felt pretty annoyed with the whole thing.
Now I don't know just how much or how little these sort of cartridges normally last, but it seems to me that 150 pages is very little for something costing around £10.
All in all, a nice cartridge but it soon ran out which makes it totally annoying!

- 13/09/09 I have to agree but then I am seriously unimpressed by HP products in general. |
