Advantages: Lasts ages, relatively cheap.
Disadvantages: Expensive when you consider it is essentially a tiny bit of ink.
This cartridge is the high yield equivalent of the HP337 (21 vs. 14 ml) cartridge, as usual these official cartridges demand a premium over their re-filled equivalents, although past experience has led me to believe that paying the extra little is definitely worth it.
I have a HP Deskjet 6940 printer, the rated yield of a single cartridge is approximately 800 pages, I have printed a total of around 1500 pages using just two of these cartridges (admittedly some would be colour, but this is an estimate), so the rating is pretty accurate as far as I can tell - a point where many manufacturers will try to over-estimate figures
There's not really much to comment about regarding the "colours" of a black cartridge, but from my experience text is easily on par with that of many laser printers, something which inkjet's failed to achieve in the past.
There isn't really much more that I can say about an ink cartridge, other than be sure to check prices when you are purchasing a new printer - those £30 bargain all-in-ones often hide cartridges that can cost more than the device itself.
Summary: Always buy genuine when purchasing ink - it may seem a rip-off but I'd say it's worth it.

- 16/05/09 In regard's to past experience I've had cartridges that simply don't work (i.e. more useless than an empty genuine one) and stupid thing's like the ink drying up really often, so if the printer wasn't used regularly (weekly) the cartridge needed to be taken out, cleaned, then tried again. Also the usual stuff like appalling colour's, making anything & everything look pretty awful. |

- 15/05/09 What is your past experience that you mention which leads you to believe that paying the little extra is definitely worth it? In my experience, refills can and do cause errors with the printers due to contamination which will mean that the printer needs to be serviced more regularly and sometimes will require replacement fusers etc due to the contamination. It then becomes an issue with some printing companies whereby it is sometimes more cost effective to pay for refills and repairs rather than use and pay for genuine HP - which has seen quite high price hikes recently...which is true of the industry as a whole due to the weak £ against the Euro and Dollar. However conversely, it is also true that many companies find it far more cost effective to stick with HP original toner because the cost of repairs outweighs the benefits of purchasing a refill. This is generalising but I'd love to know your particular experience. Snooty xx |
