Advantages: Great Representation of Colours
Disadvantages: N/A
Nowadays, it is possible to print photos at home which look as good, if not better, than those which have been printed in a professional lab - that is of course, provided you have the correct printer, inks and equally importantly... paper.
HP produce a range of photographic printing papers, and 'Premium' represents their second best option, with the top of the range 'Premium Plus' being at the higher end of the scale.
The paper is fairly cheap, with the 100 x 150 mm (photo) size costing as little as £3 for a pack of sixty sheets from Amazon. The Recommended retail price is around £8, but everywhere seems to have slashed this right down at the moment.
This product is of a good thickness at 240 g/m2, and feels glossy and smooth to the touch. As with the Premium Plus variety, there is a specially coated back to prevent smudging when pages are stacked together, which is useful as the ink can take a few minutes to fully dry.

To be honest, there is little to separate Premium Photo Paper from the more expensive Premium Plus variety. I think the real reason for the price differential between the two is due to the fact that Premium Plus has a longer fade resistance.
Colours look great, and the tonal range is beautiful represented. Prints can be handled without becoming too sticky, and it's a great paper all round. I'm not sure how good the results would be when used with other printer brands though, and it would be a case of experimentation. For the price I would highly recommended HP's Premium Photo Paper.

- 13/01/09 I used to use Epson paper but it's tripled in price, I'll give this one a try - thanks. |
