I highly recommend using compatible cartridges in this printer.
Brands may always differ but I've just recently changed from a depleted genuine cartridge to an unbranded compatible (I don't even remember where I got it from, the box is blank) and I see no quality difference at all.
All the toner cartridge does is pick up a fine black dust and roll it around an aluminium coated tube whilst the printer applies charge between the tube and the paper to make a permanent fuse of toner and paper.
At 20 GBP for a compatible cartridge and 75 GBP for a genuine cartridge, for me it's a total no-brainer and I will buy compatible cartridges for the remainder of the printers life.
Some compatible cartridges will also be remanufactured by taking the casing and drum (roller) from the old cartridge and just professionally cleaning it then filling it with their own toner powder. This is very environmentally friendly.
