Intel Pentium 4 640 / 3.2 GHz:
... processor was probably near the last of the medium-high end home processors to be made before the introduction of multiple cored processors. I have been using this particular item in a computer for the last 3 years without any performance problems what so ever. There is however one annoying problem - the processor cooling fan that is supplied in the retail boxed package is far too loud. Yes it shifts a decent ... AMD Athlon 64 4000+ / 2.4 GHz ... the years I ve owned a variety of processors, starting with an intel 486DX 33, followed by an amd k6-2 66 and then on into the pentium range. Out of them all this one has been the longest lasting one I ve owned and as I packaged it up tonight following an upgrade to a dual core chip I thought I d pop on and write a quick review. I brought this in 2005 from Aria.co.uk in one of there Friday special sales for £100 which if I remember right was a good £20 less than anywhere else were selling them. At 2.4ghz the processor was the fastest single core processor you could get on the socket 939 motherboards and as such I hoped it would have a bit more longetivety that th... AMD Athlon XP 3200+ / 2.2 GHz ... yeah, it s a 2.2 clock speed I know...but ignore that for a moment, as is becoming more and more obvious in today s world clock speed isn t the be all and end all of processing power. It s now possible to get 1.x Ghz chips that run circles around older 3.x ghz chips. I got this chip as part of a prebuilt Acer system several years ago now, when the system was actually new on the market, as part of a gaming rig, and I have to say that as someone who had previously used Intel processors all my life I was a bit anxious, but AMD had a reputation for being good for gaming with so I figured I d give it a go. I was very greatly surprised. The chip actually packs a lot more... Read the full review: Very good for an older chip by LastLine |

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ / 1.67 GHz ... Athlon XP range of processors were a great success for AMD, and were perhaps the first point where AMD had a genuine and sustained technical advantage over their great rival, Intel. The 2000+ is a Socket A processor running at 1.67GHz. While obviously used in new build computers at the time, this chip is not a very common upgrade. This is because the Athlon 2400+ supports uses the same socket and Front Side Bus speed, and offers a 20% performance improvement compared to the 2000+. Even today I use a 2000+ as the processor in my primary computer. It has run reliably for seven years, probably due the to the low thermal emissions compared to competing Pentiums. It stil...
