AMD Athlon XP 2000+ / 1.67 GHz ... Athlon XP range of processors were a great success for AMD, and were perhaps the first point where AMD had a genuine and sustained technical advantage over their great rival, Intel. The 2000+ is a Socket A processor running at 1.67GHz. While obviously used in new build computers at the time, this chip is not a very common upgrade. This is because the Athlon 2400+ supports uses the same socket and Front Side Bus speed, and offers a 20% performance improvement compared to the 2000+. Even today I use a 2000+ as the processor in my primary computer. It has run reliably for seven years, probably due the to the low thermal emissions compared to competing Pentiums. It stil... Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz ... Intel Quad Core Q6600 from my knowleadge is the lowest model for the Quad Core range but in my opinion is the best for and so cheap. From what I last heard from a friend Intel have knocked it of its shelf and are no longer producing this product and have replaced it, why, I don t really know but I see nothing wrong with this besides it s better then several ranges above it in some categories. This processor offers 4 cores which gives you 4x the speed of processing information for your computer. I personally believe that this has to be the best processor I ve ever had and the cheapest. AMD Black Edition Phenom X4 9850 / 2.5 GHz ... Have used for many years never had any problms with any of there cpus and last week made the upgrade to one of the above and i must say what a rock soiled cpu. Very fast decided on getting a better cooler for it as the idl temps where a little too high for my liking as i have gone and overclocked this to 3ghz and not had any problems with it yet. I would of gone for a 3GHz but there a little out my price range. What i really like about amd is that they are so cheap and if something needs to be updated or parts needed they are again very cost effective and cost next to nothing for parts or upgrades for them.
