Advantages: speed, no errors
Disadvantages: None
AMD athlon is the hub of my computer brain. I have recently upgraded to an AMD Athlon 1.4 chip and appropriate mother board. I upgraded from an Intel 800 Pentium 3 in order to speed things up a little. This upgrade was painless and not that expensive. For £400 I got a "new" computer this included 256MB extra SDRAM and a CD rewriter. The person I purchased the processor from took my intel in as a part exchange. I have been using this now for 3 months and I feel I can comment on the relative worth of the experience. Was it worth it? yes oh yes. The AMD is a fast beast taking pages, for example, from my temporary internet files instantly. A site that I visit alot now loads instantaneously, you have no idea how pleasant this makes navigation around the Dooyoo site. Loading files from my hard disk too is instantaeous. The computer is now a joy to use and the world wide wait is no more. The processor works a little like majic as far as I know. I liken it to a brain and in some respects it is. It is largely a very complicated memory switch that allows your computer to find files and drivers within the myriad of windows folders. The bigger the memory, the faster the processing as the more details the processor can remember. The chip remembers where files are so that you can access them. The higher rated the chip the more files it can remember so the quicker it can find them. Why AMD? Well AMD uses a different type of chip to Intel. This chip has less interference so it can store more files. Apparently an AMD 1.4 chip is as fast as an Intel 1.7. It is also cheaper. Are there any problems? No none yet. There are no driver conflicts or unexplained or overload errors. ( I must say that this is a significant improvement on my old Intel) Is it worth it? Ask yourself this, I have a new computer that I am deleriously happy with. I get no errors and have not had any freezes or glitches. I enjoy navigating the Dooy
oo site and it cost me £400. How many of you can say that?
