Price and Performance that blows the mind !

This new processor from AMD has set a new bar on the Price vs Performance comparison for the home and office PC. The AMD chip has a very strong FPU (Floating Point Unit) which allows it to really shine in some demanding situations. The AMD chips are also highly overclockable. (you can crank the speed up)

The flavors of the month are anywhere from 500mhz to a sizzling 800mhz.

If you can find unbiased review and testing of this product you will see that it out shines the new PIII from Intel. If you are looking for some serious power and a good price this is a chip you might want to consider. Sure there are some drawbacks to purchasing one now, but there is always a drawback to new technology. Support.

The AMD Athlon is so new that it does not have a large support base in place yet. What does that mean to you? Well that means that you might have some issues with compatibility for various hardware upgrades. Hardware is the only thing you have to worry about though. I have not heard of any software that was non functional due to a conflict with the AMD processor.

You can purchase the new AMD Athlon from almost ever major online vendor, and several of the large OEM Resellers Like Gateway are starting to supply them in their new PC's.

If you happen to be in the market for a new CPU and you are thinking about Athlon I suggest that you do as much research as you can. You will have to buy a new mother board to support the K7 (Athlon). I would also look into purchasing some HSDRAM to go along with it. If you use anything less than 128mb of ram with this processor you are sadly limiting its performance. 256 should be the bare minimum for any power hungry, game savy user looking for the hottest chip on the market.
