Advantages: Intel bullet proof reliability, AMD quick & cheap

Disadvantages: AMD unreliable, Intel expensive

I work for a PC maufacturer, as an engineer, and come into contact on a daily basis with all aspects of PC hardware, and in process of my normal day, I see an awful lot of CPUs. Bear in mind that I dont see the cost involved, just being a lowly engineer, this is what I have observed in diffference between the big two in terms of processors (AMD & INTEL).

Intel are bullet proof in terms of reliability, fast enough for most users, and will cause you less hassle in the long term.

AMD, I have lost count of the number of these that I have seen compared to the Intel, but if you take the Athalon as an example, they are blisteringly quick. So Buy 2 Athalons with the money you were going to buy one Intel with, have the extra performance, but be prepared to swap them over and hope your spare doesnt break while the other is being replaced, or buy the Intel and relax
