Advantages: speed, overclockable, price

Disadvantages: heat can be a issue

Just over 12 months ago i made the decision to leave the Intel camp and try one of the new AMD tbirds.
Rumours of great overclocking potential had made me look very closely at these cpu's and i eventually opted for a 1gig tbird with the now famous "axia" manufacturing code.

For those who have never heard of "axia" it is a name that is linked to great overclockability and this repuation is well justified.

The cpu arrived at my home in a "locked" state , this means that the cpu is restricted in the multiplier that it can use but this can be easily overcome with the use of a simple pencil!!!!.
Details of this procedure are quite easy to find on the internet.

The cpu was placed into a Abit kt7a motherboard and cooling was supplied by a fop 32-1 hsf.

Results are as expected , obviously the cpu is totally stable at its guaranteed speed 1000mhz but it will happily run all day long at 10x133fsb = 1333mhz!! and all this at standard voltage.

I did manage to get the pc into windows @1400mhz but this particular cpu did not seem all that stable at this speed but i think the use of a better cooling system might just cure the slight instability.

So there we go , i guess you can tell that i am more than happy with this cpu , 12 months later it still runs without a single problem and it runs any game that is available to buy in the stores .

If you fancy trying one of these cpus out then i suggest you try and hunt down one of the "axia y" versions as these often have even better results!!.

I think your op is useful because I have never been confident enough to get a computer with an AMD processor. Mainly because Intel is so well known and I think, must obviously be good. I would have given your op a VU only it was very heavy on the technical stuff. Try adding some info that isnt so much in computer jargon explaining what applications its good for?
