The Athlon XP range of processors were a great success for AMD, and were perhaps the first point where AMD had a genuine and sustained technical advantage over their great rival, Intel.

The 2000+ is a Socket A processor running at 1.67GHz. While obviously used in new build computers at the time, this chip is not a very common upgrade. This is because the Athlon 2400+ supports uses the same socket and Front Side Bus speed, and offers a 20% performance improvement compared to the 2000+.

Even today I use a 2000+ as the processor in my primary computer. It has run reliably for seven years, probably due the to the low thermal emissions compared to competing Pentiums. It still has all the performance needed to run day to day applications, and is certainly not the weakest link in my computing setup. By modern standards it is hopelessly outdated, but an Athon 2000 based machine is still a viable choice for general use.

Summary: A reliable, dependable desktop processor.
