Advantages: Very Fast Processor (compares favorably to it's P4 equivalent)., Great Price, Great Value!!!, Can be overclocked to around 2.25ghz.

Disadvantages: Limit of a 266mhz memory bus (pc2100)., Cooling Fan can be realtively loud comapared to an Intel p4., Technology moves quick, this time next year, who knows what you could get for your £?

This processor is FAST. I have noticed significant processing power from anything from watching photoshop open much more quickly to my frame rates basically maxing out on counterstrike and several other games. My computer can now truly complete multiple tasks at once, such as playing DVD's while transfering files, surfing the net, while also running photoshop. This processor is capable of running most of your application needs without any problems. However, it is important to note that this processor does not run at 2.4ghz as perhaps assumed, it runs at 2.01ghz so it is comparable to a P4 2.0ghz.

AMD has been known to outperform Pentium at common tasks such as office applications, most games, and is optimized to work with Windows XP. So if your criteria meet all of the above and you don't do much video editing, than this AMD Athlon XP should be the perfect combination of speed, price, and performance.

I do not overclock any newer processors because I simply don't have the money to buy I new one if I mess up, but I have a friend who owns this same processor and he was able to overclock this processor close to the AMD Athlon XP 2800 performance level!

On the down side, many of the older motherboards do not support it. Also, with the introduction of Hyper Threading and the new Northwood Pentium 4 core, Pentium has begun to outperform many of their AMD counterparts, beating them out severly in areas such as video editing, and other more complex computer tasks. So if you do alot of video editing, than I would reccomend a Pentium 4 with at least 2.4ghz.

Overall, this is a great processor, don't be mistaken for a moment, the stock performance of the AthlonXP 2400+ is simply awesome. Even for the most hardcore user, there is plenty of power in the CPU. If you do feel that you need to overclock, the chip we tested was able to hit about 2.25 GHz but it seems that quite a few of them will do 2.4 GHz on just air cooling.
