Advantages: Fast, Cheap, and a 3 year warranty when you buy the Retail Box

Disadvantages: Poor core insulation

I have seen lots of reviews saying how fast this processor is, and how cheap it is, and that is very true as I own one myself.

What I want to tell everyone today is: Please buy the Retail Boxed Version whether it is an Athlon or a Duron.

Yes, OEM processors are a few dollars cheaper and they come with a one year warranty. Why not though, spend the extra $10 dollars and get the retail boxed CPU and a full 3 years warranty.

Not long ago, I purchased a Duron 800 (retail box) and have been pleased with it entirely. The life span of your heatsink fan however, is slightly less. and I tend to replace my heatsink and fan for something bigger and louder fairly regularly. Imagine my dissapointment one day when installing my new heatsink, a small "crunch" noise. Of course, I was in a hurry, and not doing it properly, which is the case with many people.

Needless to say, AMD is aware that they put very little insulation around the core of their processors. I took the processor to work and RMA'd it. AMD very happily replaced it for me. I am very glad I had the protection of a 3 year warranty, as this could have happened at any time, and could happen to anyone.

AMD is to be commended for their product and their understanding in warranty issues.
