Advantages: low power consumption
Disadvantages: high retail cost, you can probably upgrade a 2-3 years old pc by changing only motherboard and proc.
The Turion MT-37 is a decent processor for notebook use but even for desktop use, it draws only 25 watt(against 45 of the new generation Amd and 65 Intel) while under stress and is probably comparable to new single core processor.
IT has a speed of 2 Ghz and is as good as any processor of the new generation but use the old socket 754 mainboards.
I personally replaced a old athlon xp 1700 socket A processor only changing Mainboard and processor.
I used the Turion for a system with ubuntu and the processor only get to 30° celsius.
The benefit of having a processor like this are probably only about power consumption, as for the processor is a good processor as any, having said already that the systems is around 30° celsius probably bring an easy oveclocking issue, I can't say much about that ssen that I bought this processor mainly for desktop use but there are many sites around the net that claims that it's somewhat oveclockable.
I bought everything on ebay and paid around 45 £ for the processor while the real retail price is around 100 £ and probably this is the main drawback, you can probably find a somewhat similar processor for around the same price on ebay.
