Advantages: Very cheap, highly overclockable

Disadvantages: Slower than Pentium III

Intel released a new crop of Celeron processors based on the 0.18 micron technology. They share the same core the new Pentium III. 0.18 micron technology means most of the CPU is capable of 800Mhz or above. With this in mind, I would like to push the Celeron 566 to above 800Mhz. The 566 has a multiplier of 8.5 with FSB of 66Mhz. By simply changing the FSB to 100Mhz, we are asking the CPU to run at 850Mhz, if it is capable of doing this.

I used Abit BH6 with 128 Mb of generic PC100 RAM. Besides the CPU I need a socket 370 to slot 1 convertor as well. I used Abit's Sloket III. The system ran stable at 1.85V core voltage. A bit high but still within spec. After some bechmarking using Quake III, I noticed even at 850Mhz, the Celeron is still beaten by Pentium III 700Mhz. So there you go, for less than £120, I upgraded my system from Celeron 450Mhz to Celeron 850Mhz. Great savings!!

Good luck.
