... made by Intel themselves !) had to provide both the 100Mhz busspeed for the Pentium 2s AND the 66Mhz busspeed for the Cel erons and first generation Pentium2s. 66Mhz x 4.5 was 300 but 100Mhz x 4.5 made it 450 So you simply ran your Celeron at the busspeed intended for the latest Pentium2s. Of course motherboard manufacturers other than Intel pushed things even further by offering you speeds outside the basic 66 and 100 Mhz setti...more

Premium Review Intel Celeron Processors in general: Intel Celeron : Avoid like the Plague or a Hidden Gem ? (1885 words)

Introduction Lately I've been browsing through the Dooyoo contributions on the Intel Celeron processor and I've stumbled on some misconceptions that seem to surround this budget processor made by Intel. In one case I read someone claiming the Celeron 1800 he bought was not able to perform as good as his trusty old AMD K6-2 533Mhz. This is nonsense of course. I'm sure there was another cause for this. But this is exactly what a Celeron is, it is a line of processors launched by Intel to offer a cheaper alternative to their high-end desktop line of processors. Most of these misconceptions can be attributed to the fact that people don't ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review This served a purpose once upon a time (335 words)

There was once a time when the Celeron served a very good purpose. This is because it was the only chip which served the purpose of bridging the gap between the Cyrix MII/AMD K6-2 at the low end and the Athlon/PIII at the highend. However this is no longer the case as AMD have released the Duron to compete with the Celeron. Now for those who dont know, the Duron is released as a competitor for Intels Celeron and VIA's Cyrix III. This is all good and proper until we look at the prices. Based on benchmarks the Duron is a little quicker than the Celeron which is fine as the Celeron is a year or so old now. However the problem is that for equivalent clock speeds ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Intel Celeron Processors in general: Celeron is good for you, or is that celery? (354 words)

I bought my PC about six months ago now and I’m pretty pleased about. It’s not a mega high spec PC but then again it’s certainly not low spec. The processor is an Intel Celeron 702MHz, although what difference two megahertz is going to make isn’t really worth mentioning. I have found that it’s a pretty speedy little chip, especially when it comes to gaming. Strangely enough, the things that it has the most trouble coping with are the simplest things such as Word and Excel. It really does take an age to open programs such as these, and closing them is just as bad. It works its little ass off whilst trying to close ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Celeron, humm not bad. (95 words)

I have been using the celeron 400 for a year now and it's performance is respectable. After recently overclocking it to 450 its performance has increased, noticable difference in Quake III in the overclocked celeron. It wouldn't handle 500 but then thats 25% over rated speed. The celeron only cost me £50 a year ago and I still think now that I am glad I stumped up the extra money rather than purchasing a 300 MHz. My opion is good but buy a FC I have heard that they storm and the overclocking ability is suposed to be amazing. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Intel Celeron Processors in general: So poor (125 words)

The Celeron processor's done with Time computers are rubbish, and i recommend that you always go with the Pentium III Chip- you get better value for money, and faster running at the same speed. For exmaple, the Celeron at 1000 Mhz runs slower than the Pentium III at 800 MHz, because it is not as well designed. You think you are getting a good deal, but you are actually getting a slower computer. I know always make sure that i get Pentium chips- and often you can only tell which chip you have in the small print- make sure it is Pentium. It is more reliable, and easier to update without changing other things on the Mother Board- get Pentium Chips they are much ...  Read the complete review
