Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: not worth the cheap price, not a minimum requirement for games

I'm pretty sure Celeron doesn't try to compete with AMD K2-6. AMD K2-6 is supposed to be a pentium II grade. In my mind though I figured a 1.8Ghz Celeron would at least be faster than 533 AMD K2-6. MY experience proved otherwise and it's just a shame. My wife plays The Sims and several expansions of it and The Sims Online. She had trouble getting video and sound drivers that were compatible with with Direct X 8.1, and we needed a new computer anyhow. Slow, Slow, Slow. After transfering all her sims files to the new computer she found the drivers she needed and had to transfer it all back. She just couldn't scroll or move around fast enough to play the game right, and believe me my wife plays The Sims; she knows every trick of the trade to make a computer run faster so she can play her game with no problems. The "new" computer became mine. My wife pulls up web pages faster, downloads faster, supports more windows at a time, and opens and closes programs faster. How can this be I wonder. My guess is celeron is just not good for gaming. Before I bought a new computer I should have done some research. The requirements for all her games are a Pentium II or greater or AMD processor. I've been looking and haven't found a game yet where Celeron was mentioned in the minimum requirements. Take my advice; if you are going to be playing games get a Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon NOT a celeron.

Sorry, but I have a very hard time believing that a Celeron 1,8 Ghz couldn't perform any better than an AMD K6-2 533Mhz. I'm sure that either the processor was faulty or your system had general problems elsewhere.

You poor bugger!!! Definitely time for an upgrade...

I personally wouldn't touch a Celeron - you only have to spend a few quid more to get a chip that hasn't been castrated...
