Gap year experiences:

Supply Teacher ... my last term in my PCGE, I was applying my every job going in my area, part-time, full-time, maternity leave, anything that would get my on the road my completing my NQT year. However, for every job I applied for, so did about 100 others. It was a terrifying feeling when I was suddenly faced with no job and no idea where to go. Supply teaching was always something at the back of my mind, but it was suddenly a viable option for me. I moved to a new area and started on my CV. Personal Assistant ... thought of as a glorified secretary, a Personal Assistant (PA) is much more than that - if they re any good, anyway. I ve been a PA in 2 different roles, one to the CFO of a multi-national advertising company and, currently, to a Professor at one of the UK s top Universities, so here are my thoughts and advice on this position, which I hope will be of help to anyone considering PA-ing, anyone just plain curious as to what the heck we do - and perhaps to bosses of PAs! ~The job itself~ In a nutshell, a PA is the right-hand woman/man to a very busy, important, person. Accountancy ... was not on my list as a child of the career path I planned to follow when I grew up. In fact had I had a list of careers I did not want to follow- it would have sat comfortably on that. However, Once upon a time I was sent to a company by an agency to work as a temporary general clerk. On arrival, I was informed that it was not a general clerk they had booked, but a figure clerk. I said "Sorry I will ring the agency", to which they responded- well you are here now, we will give it a go if you will.
