What to do in your gap year? (Hints on organising your gap year)
Name: Flying Dutchman
Advantages: see above Disadvantages: see above
For a start, make sure what you are doing is the right choice. If you are unsure about going to university and are just thinking about taking a year out to sort stuff out, think again! There are more prosperous times before uni if you work, and earn enough to not have to scrimp and save when you are there. Make sure you want to do the whole travelling thing, because you will not make the most of it if you go to Australia half-hearted, or visit Thailand on a whim. For me it was a simple choice, go to uni or earn some cash with which to go to uni with a sense of independence rather than scabbing off of your parents all of the time! If you are going to Africa, be sure that you actually want to help the third world, not just make it look good on your C.V., as you could be doing better things with your life! For me it ws a good idea to get a placement on the Year in Industry, as it is a good starting point into the world of work, and it has shown me responsibility with thousands of pounds worth of company money, so it gives you experience of real life at the cutting edge, rather than just estimating the running costs of a company. There are many ways a gap year can be spent....just make sure its what you really want to do, not just a C.V. filler. Summary: |
