Business Objects Crystal Reports XI Standard Edition ... Reports is currently the industry standard in report writing. It is very versatile, in that it can read a wide variety of databases and is extremely rich in features. It produces reports of highly professional quality, which is its main attraction. It is easy to learn, but extremely tedious to work with. It is also extremely slow and riddled with obvious bugs, which are often not fixed in newer versions. There is one bug in particular that I encounter at least 50 times per day. It has been in every release of Crystal since at least version 8.5. How do I know? MS Access 97 ... No. No. Micro$oft s Access looks like the business when you start to use it. It is easy to use - point and click in places and then drag and drop in other places. If you want to build a simple database from the ground up then Micro$oft Access looks like a good bet. If you start to poke around, though, you ll soon discover holes in Access. For example, there is a compress database function in one of the menus. That might sound innocent enough but this function is not like an in-built WinZip, no, Access databases are -very- prone to inexplicable bloating. MS Office Access 2003 ... Access is a database program which is extremely powerful. Unfortunately, because it is so powerful, it is notoriously difficult to use to its full potential.
