I had pondered the idea of buying a projector for home movie viewing and finally took the splash in march 2007. the unit i found to be a fair price, at £300, although its main use is for classrooms and businesses. This however should not deter people from buying this projector.
When it arrived it came in a large box, which as you would hope, was packed very well with protective packaging.

The box contained:
a remote control, batteries included
vga to vga lead
composite lead
s video lead
power lead
Manual

this literally makes the projector ready to plug and play straight out of the box, with no requirement to purchase extra leads.

As a class room projector, this does not disappoint, although this was not my reason for buying. My university thesis was compiled and presented using this projector, as well as various presentations made for a volunteer organisation since. Everyone comments on how bright and clear the picture is. I would presume that this unit would be an excellent product to use in a more SOHO environment, not least because of its high lumen output.

For film watching, this projector was better than i expected it to be although this is my first projector so i am a bit biased! I was slightly nervous about buying a DLP projector knowing about the "rainbow" problems that can occur. Despite this having a 5 segment colour wheel designed at cutting the chance of rainbows, they were apparent to me. Other people cannot see them, but i can. However, after watching one or two films, my eyes got used to this and i no longer see them.
The picture is excellent, i cant really fault it out of the box. I have now converted my back room to a cimema room, and all my firends regularly come round to watch films on a screen that is over 2.5 metres wide! Everyone has said its a great picture. and i have even converted some of my friends to the idea of owning a projector themselves!
Being me, and wanting to tweak things to acheive the absoloute best picture i could, i decided to buy a colour calibration kit. This required going into the maintenance menu (you have to search online for the code) and adjusting each colour to fall in line. Sad to say that the green on this projector is very high, but that is apparently to be expected with classroom projectors. and you really cant tell with teh naked eye until you start playing around with expensive colour calibration systems!. I decided to remedy this by buying a magenta camera lens for about £5 and placing it in front of the fixed lens. this worked perfectly and i now have an even more outstanding picture with amazing depth of colour and blacks. The projector has its own degamma settings, which allow the overall picture brightness to be changed without compromising quality- something contrast and brightness fail to do. I was then watching films id seen 1000's of times before in a totally new way, with images in the dark standing out and detail that was perviously hidden.
The bulb life of this proojector is at around 3000 hours. I am still on the original bulb and my projector is reading 4579 hours, so i am very happy with this.
The major niggle i have found with this is that it is HD ready, but lacks a HDMI port which means that you have to connect via the vga port, compromising true HD. there are add ons you can buy to combat this, eg the HD fury, but taking into account the price of the unit, and the HDfury, you could probably find a low end HD projector with similar spec for around the same price.
