Sanyo developed its commercial use or home theater LCD projector, the PLV-80, by taking the best features of their earlier projector units, adding more power, more image quality and more features. Sanyo then engineered all that new technology back into the same size and weight package, leaving the things end-users liked while adding everything new. There's only one way to tell the difference - besides the PLV-80 name, of course, and that's by turning it on!

The PLV-80 produces 3000 ANSI lumens on your big screen, plus it produces all that brilliant light along with a rich 1000 to 1 contrast ratio and all of the powerfully saturated colors that only three precisely designed, micro-lens-equipped 1.21 inch LCDs can provide. Hardly any other technology can match the kind of virtually realistic, practically 3D, smoothly colorful images that liquid crystal technology mated with a precise, high contrast, x-cube optical system can do. Other types of projection technology struggle to get close to the kinds of realistic colors that LCD technology produces. Sanyo's PLV-80 makes rich, clear, long-lasting and stable images.

Along with the impressiveness of their LCD colors and increased contrast, Sanyo's engineers have once again improved their progressive scan IC and cross-color separation ICs to increase image quality and to provide superior diagonal resolution (along with up to UXGA re-sizing of computer inputs). These new ICs offer 2-3 as well as 2-2 pull down corrections that provide HDTV signal compatibility while delivering high quality on-screen images from film sources.

Additionally, Sanyo's Intelligent Sharpness Control automatically analyzes the various signal components to select the best sharpness setting.

Sanyo retains the features users have come to expect such as the motorized up-down lens shift along with motorized zoom/focus as well as the right-left or up-down digital keystone correction features. The lamp's power has been increased while cutting down on the cooling fan noise. The PLV-80 utilizes a linear control of the cooling fan rotation speed that is linked to internal temperature sensors to eliminate any noisy, scene-stealing bursts of fan activity and to reduce the noise level to just 33 dB.
