A Projector Well Ahead Of It's Time

This is a great projector overall. I recognise that this is a fairly old projector and pretty much outdated, but as I work with secondhand electronics, I am seeing this projector becoming more and more popular.

Please do not be put off by the fact that this projector has a brightness of 600 lumens. It is on par with projectors of around 1500 lumens. Infact, it is far better than most projector of double the brightness (1200 lumens) the projectors that come to mind are Toshiba's, but I'll review some of them later.

I think that this projector is popular for a couple of reasons. One is that it has a max resolution of 1280 X 1024 which is superior than most new projectors and certainly beats any projector in it's price range. The second is that it is very solidy built. Unless you have seen one of these projectors you may be confused by the look of it from the picture. It works with a front panel that covers the whole of the front which is great as it protects the lens. Then this front panel can be released by a sliding catch and it then rotates under the projector, aiming the projector up slightly.

The protective front panel has made the projector popular with people looking for a projector to do office presentations. The whole projector is very solidly built and can be knocked around a bit without damaging the components inside. This makes it easy to transport and you needn't worry about it taking a slight knock. Though obviously this is within reason, don't expect to be able to play football with it! The projector weighs less than 3 kilos so you'll have no problems carrying out with you to the office and it's copact size makes it ideal for someone who has to take the train/tube to work.
The picture quality is excellent with this projector, owing mainly to its 1280 x 1024 resolution.

There is a good range of inputs on this projector allowing you to connect anything from a PC to a dvd player to it. The only downside to the inputs is that it has only got a single RCA for video input and relies upon a 3.5mm (headphone type) audio jack. Which can be a pain at times as you cant just use a triple RCA lead.
This projector is not designed to be ceiling mounted. It can only be desk mounted which makes setup time much quicker but if your looking for a permanent installation that's out of the way, this isn't for you.

Advice on buying this projector secondhand would be to check the lamp hours. This projector has an estimated lamp life of 2000 hours which is pretty standard on projectors today. Most of these projectors have only been use for office presentations and so have only had a couple of hundred hours use, but it pays to check the lamp usage. Just go into the menu and it is recorded there for you. A new lamp would cost you more than the projector is worth so aim to buy one with around 1000 hours use or less.
Also if you will want a remote with the projector, makes sure you buy a projector that has the remote with it, as replacement remotes are hard to find, yet the remotes are very easy to lose. And if you are forced to buy a new replacement then be prepared to spend £40-60. But as these projectors are desk mounted, you don't really need a remote for it.

Overall a great projector. Good value for money and great specification. Please do not be putoff by the 600 lumen lamp it is much better than you would expect and will work fine in daylight.

      Great Projecter

This is a fully featured 2000 ANSI lumens 350:1 contrast ratio projector. Its 0.63" 3LCD imaging panels (the part that creates the image) delivers sharper and brighter images with superior grayscale detail. Smooth, seamless color combined with an unparalleled grayscale range delivers incredible detail to every image displayed by the VPL-ES7.

The VPL-ES7 also has the international credentials you've come to expect in more expensive projectors. It's got a world-ready 100 to 240 volt 50/60 Hz power supply. It can handle NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL-60 and SECAM video signals. And it has a 17 language onscreen display (OSD). The VPL-ES7 also decodes and displaysclosed-captioning information from programming that provides it, benefiting those in your audience with hearing impairment. It helps people whose native language isn't English.

This projector can also handle 720/60p, 720/50p, 1080/60i and 1080/50i high definition signals. (The "50" variants are used mostly in video production.)

Although Sony doesn't bill the VPL-ES7 as a "short throw" projector it can still create a pretty big picture in a pretty tight space. At a distance of just 7.5 feet it can project an image that measures 80 inches across diagonally.

Although you can permanently mount the VPL-ES7 if you present on the move you'll appreciate its Off & Go feature. Instead of waiting around for the fan to cool down and the lamp you can just turn the projector off, unplug it from the wall socket and be on your way.

Overall a great product from Sony which can achieve a lot of success.

      Impressive size diagonal projector

High image quality in cinemas, and in all the films we are, in fact, obliged Sony. Without them there would be no no no 3D HD video. Today, everyone recognizes that digital projectors in cinemas give a better picture than the film: more clean, clear, stable, rich, contrasting... In General, pleasant in all respects. If not Sony, such projectors in movie theaters and in our time were rare, because the film industry is a very conservative industry, though it does not say at first glance.

Many filmmakers until recently used to shoot film camera. It's not their love for the film to work with it much more. Only now they began to develop a digital camera. And thanks to Sony, which has put a lot of effort to do this.

Now let's talk specifically about the model Sony VPL ES7.
Advantages: Quite good transferred image, the brightness is enough to use day even not really shading the room. The diagonal image size to ~a 7.62 meter that very few do not. Use only in ECO mode. The lamp life 3000 hours power 190 watts. Modest size, with a weight of 2.9 kg very comfortable to carry. The fan noise is almost inaudible.
Cons:Almost none. The noisy fan only modes high brightness, but it all applies. Pretty weak speaker, but he is not the main function of the projector.
Enjoy the company of six months. Not every day, but during this time clocked about 150 hours. If the lamp in ECO mode will work claimed 3000 hours, it will last 5 years. After the first few viewings, satisfied, as if he had been in the cinema. Watching movies with high quality images even after 6 months of impressive. TV, of course, brighter and more contrast, but a TV with such a diagonal is very costly. Impression from the use of only positive. Problems or no.
