Crown Carveries in General
by beccyrasooly
Our local crown carvery is the Moorlands in sheffield. It is a nice clean pub with good parking and an outside playarea and seating ( wooden picnic style benches). We have been several times with the family to meet up for a meal to celebrate birthdays. We have been twice in the past two weeks and the food has been lovely. For mon to ... saturday all day its 3.99 for adults 3.49 for kids. As with the usual carverys of this type you get your meat and yorkshire served and help yourself to as much veg, potatoes, stuffing, gravy and sauces as you want. If you dont want the normal roast they also do such things as pie and sausages which i believe are 2 meals for £7. They sell a good variety of drinks and service is always fast.
My husband and I are big eaters and go for the kingsize option for an extra £1.50. Personally i find its definitely worth the extra money. You get a giant yorkshire instead of a small one, extra meat and a sausage. Monday to saturday there is beef, turkey and gammon on offer, all offered with a yorkshire pudding, stuffing, mash potatoes, roast potatoes and a good choice of veg. Obviously this will vary from the different carveries but this one always seems to have carrots, cauliflower cheese, peas, sweetcorn, a green veg, the potatoes and possibly some others. The meat is moist especially the turkey. The veg is always piping hot and the servers and staff are friendly.
The desserts are reasonably priced and nice too. Hot and cold puddings served. There is also usually colouring pages and crayons for the kids too
Last night we went we took advantage of the 'kids eat free in half term' offer they seem to do most holidays. Worked out 14.88 i think it was for two kingsize carveries and two cokes.
Given the cost and effort you put into doing a roast at home i happily will go to crown carvery instead. Read the complete review |

J.D. Wetherspoon in general
by Sefgrt
This pub opened in December 2011 and was absolutely packed to the rafters until well into 2012 and the reasons are clear: Cheap Beer, Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, Cheap Food, Modern Design, Clean, Vibrant Colours and a selection of almost anything you could want from a Free House.
JD Wetherspoon took over an old Shopping ... Arcade in Shaw, which was vandalised some years back; burnt out and abandoned. JDW took the building and transformed it in little over 6 months to the most popular destination in the Town.
The menu boasts luxurious items, such as Roast Dinners and Steaks to finger food, such as Nachos and Burgers. The menu is an absolute delight, offering every variation possible, from Italian, English, Mexican, Spanish and Indian cuidsine.
On Tuesday and Thursday there are club night, Steak on tuesday, which offers a steak with chips and salad + a selected drink for around £7 - and it's good steak too!
Thursday is Curry Night, where a similar option is available with a large selection of Currys, from Korma to Vindaloo - served on Rice with popadoms and a naan.
Sundays offers Sunday Club, where a Roast Dinner with selected drink is available for under £10.
Food is served at the Shay Wake from 8 in the morning up until 10pm, 7 days a week - including Bank Holidays!
There isn't another place in the small town that offers such great value 7 days a week and so consistently.
I have visited the place on several occasions and am yet to have a bad experience. The staff are extremely friendly, offering to bring Coffee over even when it's busy and that is service you cannot grumble about.
The decor is fantastic inside, offering vibrant colours and a great modern feel to it, whilst homaging the history of Shaw, with photos of Churchill and other notable members of the community, as well as a large powered device, made up entirely of metal recovered from the historic Cotton Mill industry, which the town is famous for.
The name comes from an event that too place in the town during the cotton mill era and JDW have really put thought into this aspect, rather than just opening up 'another' pub.
I am very pleased to welcome friends and family to this pub and smile when walking in, knowing they are as happy with it as I am
I am very pleased with this local gem in my local area and hope that many outsiders can come in and feel the delights of such a brilliant modern Pub.
This pub for me deserves a solid 10/10. The management are very helpful and the staff are fantastic. The pub itself has brought so much trade to Shaw and helped the other businesses around it, which is something that needed to happen!
Thank you JD Wetherspoon. Read the complete review |
