The one thing that has always struck me about 5th Avenue that you rarely feel anywhere else in Manchester is the safety of the place. Probably due to the fact that the music played there keeps out the scally hordes, most people in 5th Avenue are out simply for a good night of music and cheap drinks. And that is what they get!

Favourites by bands like the Stone Roses, Charlatans, Shed Seven, and Oasis are regularly played, and on some occasions you'll be lucky enough to hear The Smiths and even The Buzzcocks. 5th Avenue DJ's certainly like the local bands. The dance floor sometimes gets cleared by the DJ foolishly deciding to play Rage Against The Machine or the Deftones. Not that he ever notices.

Drinks are reasonably priced for Manchester, neither too expensive nor exceptional bargains. Steer clear of the sugary alcopops served here though, as they will rot your teeth. Think maggots, think apples.

See you there and look out for the middle-aged guy standing at the far side of the dance floor next to a pillar, with a highly monotonous dance.
