AN OASIS of tranquillity off York's infamous Micklegate Run. If you prefer talking to people than shouting and drinking out of a glass to drinking out of a bottle then the Ackhorne Inn is the place for you. Ten yards from Micklegate (just take the lane at the side of the church on the hill), this pub is an ideal city-centre venue. The pub serves some of the best real ale in York. But don't let that put you off. It is not your typical real ale pub with a bewildering display of hand-pumps. There are normally only two or three choice real ales available at any time. Roosters Yankee is available most of the time. Even if you don't normally drink real ale do not miss the opportunity to try this one. It is a gem of a beer, a fine example of the brewer's craft. Food is available lunchtimes (though I've never sampled it). Credit and debit cards are accepted for drinks. Although no special provision has been made the pub is accessible by wheelchair.
