The Athenaeum is quite a strange bar really, it seems to be converted from an old concert hall or bank, it has very high ceilings and a couple of odd balconies. There are some wierd greek style statues dotted around and some wall ordnaments that look like a person's backside! It's situated right in the middle of town near the main shopping area. You get suits and shoppers in there during the day because The Athenaeum offers a range of food and isn't too busy during the mad 12-2 dinner hour. The weekends and friday only really get busy around 8-9pm so there still is plenty of time to pop in after a hard days shopping. It's not the trendiest of bars in Manchester by a very long way, but it is reasonably friendly. The bar staff are quite reasonable people and they serve the usual range of drinks you would expect. They do drinks offers, such as two Buds for the price of one before 8pm. If you're looking for a place to meet your friends for a night out or a just quiet drink during the day, you could do a lot worse than The Athenaeum.
