Advantages: Nice atmosphere, good beer

Disadvantages: Very small

The Bath Hotel is tucked away off West Street just outside the city centre. It's one of the most popular areas of Sheffield for bars and pubs but if you didn't know that the Bath Hotel was there you could easily miss it and if you're looking for loud music and a lively crowd then you probably wouldn't want to find it anyway.

This is one of the smallest pubs in Sheffield and its also one of the most traditional. Dating from Victorian times its easy to assume that this place has hardly changed at all. There are ceramic tiles on the wall that date from before the Second World War and as you step through the door there really is a feeling of stepping back in time.

Each of the two rooms are tiny, capable of holding no more than a dozen people comfortably in each. The same bar serves both rooms and although one room is described as the snug and the other the lounge they are pretty much alike.

What draws people like myself to a place like this is its charm. The bar staff are very friendly and within only a couple of visits they will be talking to you like an old friend. Its also a welcome respite from the suffocating crowds of West Street nearby. The beer quality is always consistently good and there are usually up to five guest Real Ales available too. It is mentioned in the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) good pub guide and in my opinion quite deservedly too.

Overall this is a great little place and a welcome change from the faceless chain pubs nearby. No food is available other than crisps and similar snacks and despite its name there's no accommodation available either.
