      Very helpful

After attending the Holiday show at the GMEX arena I was thirsty. Spending three hours in the company of such huge celebrities as Penny Junor and Judith Chalmers wasn't as fun as I'd imagined. Anyway as I trudged around the sodden streets of Manchester my spirits sank. My companion Clive who works as a runner at Granada TV tried to cheer me up but my hat was well and truly saturated. We turned the corner into Piccadilly and we hurried into what looked like a pleasant pub. The Brunswick tavern is a hidden gem, we arrived at 5pm on the sunday evening and Andrew Weatherall was already 3 hours into a what turned out to be a legendary 8 hour set. He dropped everything from rare UB40 dubplates to common as muck Diana Ross cuts. This of course was all blended in to his trademark industrial hard-school techno. Drinks....Clive and I enjoyed a pint of Strangeways Mild, it was a bit heavy for the occasion so we swapped to vodka, lime and lemonade. They were reasonably priced. The crowd was made up of beautiful young things. Boys in light shirts dripping with sweat, girls for all around the world in the sort of t-shirts that could make Tom Paulin lose his affected stutter. As I bounded onto the dancefloor my senses were inflamed. The lights penetrated my fragile mind. I moved closer to a pretty young student. Further inspection revealed her to be a japanese exchange student who danced like she was wearing clogs. We talked all night about everything and nothing, I forgot to ask for her number but it didn't matter. What we had was so modern, it hurt. Brunswick Tavern: 2pm - 10:30pm Sundays Entrance: Free
