Cabot Court Hotel (Weston-Super-Mare)
Advantages: Everything, ever changing meal and drinks deals, massive menu
Disadvantages: None this place really is brill!
Recently my parents came to visit me and as I have been having all kinds of noisy neighbour issues decided as always to stay at a hotel or something. They stayed not a stones throw away from me at Cabot (this place) however this review is about Cabot its about drinking and eating here (as its a pub!) though I will touch upon their stay as I did go to their room for a nosey about and get their feedback about it!
Like I say this isn't far away from where I live and its on Weston Super Mare seafront. This place is run by Wetherspoons and if I rememeber rightly only opened up last year after being a run down place that consisted of a few pubs sort of under one roof.
Cabot Court Hotel
Well being a Wetherspoons I expected it to be the same as the other numerous (over the years) chain of pubs that I have been in, actually though it isn't. This place wasn't what I expected at all! Its set over 4 floors and on any floor you can eat. As you walk in the bar is standard, go down some stairs toilets are there, go up another flight you have a room floor to celing decked with wooden panelling done to resemble a ship and even on the walls there are tv screens looking a bit like windows with waves on it that is a continious film, up some more steps you have an elegant dining room complete with like a bird cage style table to the middle of it. Toilets are available on other floors, there is a disabled toilet as well and where I sit always depends on my mood and the very top floor (the toilets in the basement are not included in the number of floors their are apparently) again there is another room this time with dancefloor and a dj booth but again with tables.
To the front and the sie of the building there are benches, course you can take your dog out here if you like and have a smoke and both areas give a great view of the pier!
I like lots of things about this place from the level of cleanliness provided, the staff are really helpful, clean and smart, the drinks are Wetherspoons usual kind of prices and not extortionate and the food here is flipping wonderful with plenty of deals on!
There is an atm and there is a fruit machine but this really is a place that isn't overly noisy and it really does cater for people of all ages. At weekend nights its fair to say that around 9pm younger people, all dressed up do queue and thats cos on the fourth floor often there is a dj or a band (free to get in) however I have been here with friends and with my family and mate and theres always a quieter area to sit in than others.
There is only one bar however on the lower floor though it is very well stocked indeed with local beers, wines, spirits and alcopops and basically your looking at about £3.00 a pint, same for wine and about £4.00 a bottle for wkd and the likes though like other Wetherspoons there are drinks offers always on and some meals do provide you with a glass of wine, pint or pop with a meal which offers exceptional value for money!
One of the reasons I like the place is actually the top notch food and yep I'm surprised I'm saying that about a meal in Wetherspoons of all places. Course there are the usual starters such as soup of the day and prawn cocktail plus things for sharing, main meals include my Mums favourite....lasanga, my step-dads steak and chips and me and my mate love the mixed grill from here to which we had a choice of drinks to go with so we have a pint of cider and that costs us about £8.00 a head, considering a pint of cider here is almost £3.00 we think thats excellent value! Of course there are vegetarian options here and meal deals certain days of the weeks such as two people van have fish and chips and a drink for under a tenner and so on and of course there is a kids menu as kids are allowed in till 10pm to eat (where food service then closes).
The dessserts look great costing around the £4.00 mark for chocolate brownie, apple pie and things though the meals here are so big I have never had any room to stick one to be honest and there are a range of hot drinks varying in price. For me, my stepdad, my mother and my best friend 4 meals (and 2 drinks with the meals) came to £35.00 which we thought was excellent value. We were served fast, left to eat and digest in peace and wiped down and cleaned up (the table not personally us!) quickly and once again left alone. After the meal we stayed in our seats a good hour afterwards and a bottle of house red cost £11.50 and a bottle of rose cost £9.00.
The problem with this place is if your travelling by car there is no parking and that applies to people staying in the hotel too, their is zilch which meant my step dad who as I mentioned earlier was staying their had no where to park and car parks over night charge about £20.00, luckily my friend lives nearby and he parked outside heres and she taxied them about!
Now I never stayed in the room and this review isn't really about that but I will vouch for it for anyone wanting to stay cos I was really impressed by it. The room my parents stayed in was above the pub, owned by Wetherspoons and was quite simply lovely. They had a twin room booked from laterooms.com and it them £78.00 for two nights instead of closer to £140.00. The room wasn't huge, like I say had twin single beds and was decorated in cream, gold and a burgundy colour. It was very clean with tea and coffee making facilities, a flat screen tv was on the wall and the adjacent bathroom was white fitted with bath and shower over, again very clean with a small collection of toiletries and towles provided. The room was quiet, the only complaint my parents had was that the quilts were too warm but my mum said she slept like a log for the first time in ages. Check in time is after 2pm and check out 10am and the only negative about this place was the parking issue an although my parents enjoyed their stay here well enough (they had a 30% off breakfast voucher for downstairs too which helped em out food wise and they had a fry up, toast and teas for about five pound (for the two of them) they wouldn't stay again cos of the parking problem only...though they raved about brekkie!
All in all I will continue to eat and drink here as will my mate and my parents are back this week to help me move flats and we will be back once again. The drinks choices are good, service, prices and food its just a shame about parking for visitors sadly!
Open 7am-11pm daily.
Summary: Visit you won't be disapointed!
