Advantages: Funky, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Pricey Pints
The Elbow Room is a bar based in Chapel Market in Central Islington, it is within 5 minutes walk of Angel Tube station and can be found when you enter the pleasingly old fashioned chapel market, by walking down the road past the fish and chip shop where it is well marked. It really stands out on this road of fast food venues, Iceland and slightly inexpensive shops as once you enter it your in possibly the coolest, funkiest Pool bar in London.
Opening hours are:
Mon 17:00-02:00
Tue-Thu 12:00-02:00
Fri-Sat 12:00-03:00
Sun 12:00-00:00
Restriction on hats and sportswear at weekends only.
Food is served until 2200hr every night.
Food is the Elbow Room burger, a large burger which you can combine with a choice of toppings and chunky chips for £8.95, you can also order small snacks such as Fish cakes, Bruschetta, turkey burgers or mini hotdogs. The drinks menu is excellent with a wide array of beers, including Hoogaarden, cocktails cost around £7-£8 and are good quality and shooters can be bought as shot racks with 6 for £10 or 9 for £15. There is also a happy hour from 5-8pm with Carling, Coors and house wine on a 2 for 1 offer at this time. The drinks can be bought at the bar or brought to your table.
So the pool, when you walk in you have a dark venue with a number of huge purple baized pool tables. The decor is funky, the pool tables look great and you can prebook tables prior to arrival (recommended)
The prices are as follows, there are 10 tables to use:
Mon-Fri before 6pm £6 per hour, £10 per hour afterwards
Sat-Sun before 5pm £6 per hour, £10 per hour afterwards
The pool is great fun and really makes this place different, there are plenty of places to relax, sofa's etc and the drink flows freely. Dj's play most nights and there have been some real big names play here, the music is different each day, theres a party vibe on Friday and Saturday nights but more of a chilled DJ vibe on Sunday afternoons (The best time to go with a hangover!).
Overall this place is more expensive than a normal pool hall, but the atmosphere is excellent, the food and drink is fine if not slightly pricey for what it is and the decor and vibe is really good fun.
Summary: My favourite London Pool Hall
