Evil Eye Lounge (York)

Description: Address: 42 Stonegate / York / North Yorkshire / YO1 8AS / England / Cocktail bar.

Newest Review: ... the toilets and a lounge - however, at the moment the lounge is closed off to the public, but I believe it can be hired out. Evil Eye is a cocktail bar, so behind the bar is a huge shelf holding every kind of alcohol imaginable. Just looking at it can lead to brain-cell suicide. There is a comprehensive cocktail menu containing a huge range, from shooters to martinis to long drinks, all ... more

Premium Review Evil Eye Lounge (York): Evil Eye, heavenly food and drinks (1394 words)

York is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK, and no wonder: not only is it a beautiful medieval city with much surviving architecture (the Minster is a notable example, and the Shambles, an entire street of medieval houses, in one of the most photographed areas in England), but it also has a vibrant shopping district, a number of tourist destinations, a huge amount of street life and a number of fantastic bars and restaurants. Evil Eye is, in my opinion, one of the best places in York. Located on Stonegate in the centre of town (another very popular street with tourists), it doesn't look like that much from the outside. This is partly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Food & Drink To Make You Drool - Eye Love It! (546 words)

The Evil Eye Lounge is a really unusual bar on the cobbled shopping street of Stonegate. It can easily be missed as it is fronted by its shop (see photo) which sells an array of spirits, beers and ciders - with a good selection in the fridge which is good to know. Look out for the big blue eye sign as you walk down the street to spot the bar. (The shop also has another outlet a few doors down.) We had visited the shop a few times before we realised the dark door at the back of the shop led to a bar! Once through there you are met with a very long bar, behind which is the biggest array of bottles of spirits and liqueurs I have ever seen. There is also a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Evil Eye Lounge (York): Even Johnny Depp 'eyed' up this cocktail bar! (689 words)

The Evil Eye Lounge is a bar behind a beer shop, located in the Stonegate area of the picturesque city of York. On a cobbled street frequented by tourists on ghostwalks, living statues, and well, more tourists, the Evil Eye is in a prime location for catching weary sightseers on their way back from marvelling at the Minster. The decor inside has a Brazilian/Morrocan theme according to their website, although in fact it seems to be more of a mishmash of Indian and Mediterranean influences to me! Downstairs there is a 20m long bar, and an outdoor patio area which is absolutely CRAMMED on sunny days. Upstairs there are several computers for internet access, some ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Something different in York (218 words)

Rating:

"Johnny Depp's favourite bar in York", proud locals will tell you in this Stonegate coctail bar. Regardless of the validity of this claim, the Evil Eye lounge is a bohemien reserve which lies in between the two main trends in York of old man pubs and generic, bland nightlife. The bar would be described as "quirky". Uneven shelves prop up the spirit bottles and if you're lucky enough you may even be able to enjoy your mojitos while sitting on a four-poster bed on the first floor. With food served daily, internet access, beer garden and a separate shop, the Evil Eye provides you with all the normal facilities you would expect from a bar of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Evil Eye Lounge (York): So bohemian (175 words)
by - written on 21/09/09 (Useful, 13 readings)

Probably one of the most 'fashionable' places to drink in York, the evil eye lounge is bohemian style cocktail bar that serves eclectic quasi- pan Asian food during the day. The bar staff are friendly although many have long dreadlocks and often look somewhat unwashed. The bar is well stocked, with a wind range of alcohol with a respectable range of both Rum and Tequila. The cocktails are moderately priced, however depending on when you choose to go your cocktails will be made somewhere between poorly and satisfactory as the staffs bar skills aren't all up to the same standard. This is possibly due to an 'informal' training programme that one would assume ...  Read the complete review
