“ PUB. Beverley Road, Kingston-upon-Hull, East Yorkshire. „
Of all the many pubs I went into during my time as a student in Hull, the Firkin (formerly the Mainbrace) on Beverley road was undoubtedly my favourite. It has everything I want from a pub, pool tables, games machines, fruit machines, live bands, DJ's and cheap food. The sheer diversity of what went on and the range of promotional offers meant that there was always something on in the Firkin. For example it had VFM nights, with heavily reduced drink prices and a resident indieesque DJ, or quiz nights on a Sunday. It is also a great place to go to watch sport with two big screens and a plethora of little ones to ensure where ever you are in the pub you caught the action. More than this though the pub just had a good vibe, it was a great place to go and have a drink and chat with your mates, be there two or twenty of you. It had the best mix of locals and students anywhere, great friendly bar-staff and management and a slow evolution so new things came but you did not feel the place was different everytime you went in. Next time I'm in Hull, I will certainly go there for a drink.
