Of all the many pubs I went into during my time as a student in Hull, the Firkin (formerly the Mainbrace) on Beverley road was undoubtedly my favourite. It has everything I want from a pub, pool tables, games machines, fruit machines, live bands, DJ's and cheap food. The sheer diversity of what went on and the range of promotional offers meant that there was always something on in the Firkin. For example it had VFM nights, with heavily reduced drink prices and a resident indieesque DJ, or quiz nights on a Sunday.
