Advantages: Superb food, clean, excellent service and ideally located for the beach!

Sometimes you just find a place that makes you smile. The Glyn Y Weddw Arms is one such place. It has all the makings of a fabulous pub, great family eatery and general all-round good place!

Situated just off the main road (A499) between Pwllheli and Llanbedrog you could easily drive past if you were not paying attention. The pub is set back from the road at a rather jaunty angle and that which is visible from the road rather belies what you will find if you stop. As a guide if you spot the Londis Supermarket (small) then the pub is next door. If you reach the boat yards and bridges over the estuary (travelling towards Llanbedrog from Pwllheli) you've gone too far.

There's plenty of parking both at road level and down the hill behind the Londis store. Failing that, there's on street parking in the road to the side of the pub.

The pub is a family eating pub and coach parties, hen and stag do's are not permitted. Signs everywhere reinforce this. There's plenty of room both inside and out and the place is spotless. The toilets, in particular, put many posh hotel toilets to shame.

The food on offer is attractively priced and portions are good, a fairly common thing in Wales yet welcome nonetheless. You can dine a la carte with a varied pub and easy dining menu or, day depending, a carvery is available. Children's meals are offered too and thankfully the choice is not just the standard fish, chicken or sausage. They even offer take-away pizza! Food was well cooked and presented and, to me, rated highly as pub food.

You can dine inside or out and there is plenty of space on all but the busiest of days. That's not to say that this pub is underused. Trade is brisk and people leaving are replaced quickly at peak times.

The pub is tied to the Robinson's brewery but there are a selection of tied and free ales on offer. Prices again are reasonable (particularly to us Londoners!).

For children there is a two terraced play area with climbing and slide toys. This is overlooked by the terrace and provides an ideal opportunity for parents to have a break. The only "downside" of the park is that it is accessed by steep steps from the terrace and the steps come out onto a quiet road which, although not used much, does attract some very local traffic. Just exercise sensible caution.

Staff are very pleasant and went out of their way to help.

The Glyn Y Weddw Arms is ideally situated to provide a break if spending the day at Llanbedrog beach sited abou 1/2 a mile away at the end of the lane by the side of the pub (and in fact, we left the car at the pub whilst visiting although there is a National Trust Car Park). It would also be a favourable choice of eatery a short hop from Pwllheli and its holiday parks.
