Advantages: cheap real ale

Disadvantages: foods not great

I have recently come round to Wetherspoons probably due to the fact I am slowly turning into an old man. Previously I used to regard Wetherspoons with disdain as it was populated by a strange mix of weirdoes attracted by the cheap booze. As my taste for real ale developed, so I discovered the treasure trove that is the Counting House.

The Counting House and indeed all the Wetherspoons I have been in have some really good proper ales, with changing guest ales not to mention mini ale festivals. Not only do they have great beer, it's ridiculously cheap usually around the £2 mark with specials for £1.50 or their recent sale which had Deuchars at 99p. I have become more regular at Wetherspoons over the years due to this and find myself enjoying the peace from thumping music which allow proper banter.

The food is very very cheap but in this case you do only get what you pay for, precooked microwave slop, however regarding Wetherspoons as purely a place to drink I would definitely recommend, in fact I think I may put my flat cap on, get my pipe and go there now.

Summary: well worth going for a few decent cheap pints
