Advantages: Very cheap prices, helpful polite staff

Disadvantages: The toilets are always miles away.

Over the last two days I have been busy out and about around my home town and I have not had the chance to cook myself a meal at home.

I decided to visit my local Wetherspoon pub as I had heard great things about it from friends and family, as with everyone at the moment I am having to watch the pennies and eating out is a bit of a luxury, but I decided to give it a go and hang the expense!!!

Wetherspoon pubs are an emormous chain that pride themselves on excellent value for money, it is almost the Easyjet of the pub trade. There is for example, no music in a Wetherspoon pub, just the noise of a hundred different conversations, which are always interesting to listen in on!

I have had two meals over the past two days, as a vegetarian I have to look around usually for options that suit my requirements. The first meal I had was a Deli vegetarian burger, with six onion rings, fries and reggae reggae sauce. For £6.49, this also came with a free drink from their choice clearly printed on the menu. The burger was really delicious, the bread very fresh and the chips were perfectly cooked. Although the pub was heaving with people, I was still served within ten minutes, which greatly impressed me.

The second meal was a five bean chilli. As I was hungry, I also added some garlic bread. This, along with a pint of diet pepsi (no ice - it ruins it in my opinion!) was £7.34. Again, the pub was very very busy, but I was served by a very polite and helpful waitress within ten minutes. The chilli was delicious...ok, so it was not the biggest bowl of chilli in the world, but the nachos and basmati rice that were with it were very well cooked and for £3.99, I really could not fault it.

The layout of my local Wetherspoon is very spacious and can easily fit in a good few hundred people, it is quite dark on initial entry, but I think on reflection that the light is manufactured to give it an 'olde worlde' feel.

The furniture and surroundings are very 'traditional pub' but they are comfortable, they have the feel of a house that you would not mind being in...knowing you could put your feet up on the settee and no one would complain.

There were many varieties of people in the pub and everyone seemed to be getting on well (my listening in on conversations seemed to prove that!) and when I left I felt like I had had a tasty meal for very good value.

The chain also offers free wireless internet, which is great if you are like me and always on the move with a laptop in tow. A simple registration was all that was needed to access very high speed internet connections.

There is one downside and it appears to be a common feature of the two or three Wetherspoon pubs I have visited. The toilets are upstairs...now I know I should not really moan about this...but they do seem like miles away when you have a full bladder!

Wetherspoon pubs are ideal to visit for a cheap, cheerful meal and also take into account cost...without any impact upon quality. I think many other chains could learn a lot from my local one.

Summary: You can't moan about not having music with the prices you pay.
