Jilly's Rock World

Description: Club

There are a few vintage arcade games and pool tables dotted about, as well as a smoking area outside, and the lights are kept down low so crazy dancing is encouraged! Jilly's Rockworld 65 Oxford St Manchester M1 6FQ Tel: 0161 236 9971 http://www.jillys.co.uk/ If you're after an alternative to chain clubs and chart tunes then look no further than Jilly's Rockworld. As the name suggests, Jilly's is home to Manchester's finest selection of rock 'n' roll and is celebrated for its wide variety of music and history as the second oldest club in the city. The Venue Jilly's is situated on Oxford Street next to its sister venue, The Music Box. Jillys is a club on Manchester Oxford Road. It has a few different rooms (although there is one room that we have found very hard to find, every time we go..). You can usually find people handing out flyers for free entry before ten, which is good because it lowers the cost. The drinks are pretty expensive so it does need to be a big night out. The bar staff seem friendly and there has never been a long queue for the bar. The club itself is a bit wierd, I go to similar clubs in other parts of the northwest but in this one I dont feel very comfortable. If you just go in your day clothes on spur of the moment, it feels like you dont fit ...  Read the complete review

Hey kids, I just thaught I'd take a minuit or two to try and explain a few of Rockworld's fantastic assets. It's not a piece of cake though, this club is one of those where you just have to go and make up yer own mind. I started to go to Jilly's about 6 months ago, my mates Mark, Tom and Rob had been pestering me for ages to follow in their footsteps and try it. I never used to be in to clubs, especially rock clubs, but this place blew me away. The lack of trendy people who look for status rather than a good time, dress code out of the window, brilliant, loud music, a more than friendly atmosphere and that sense of full acceptance to ...  Read the complete review

Having attended Rockworld several times on various days, I feel qualified to point out its negative aspects (something other Rockworld opinions here don't do too well). Firstly, it's very clique-y. You have to dress to fit in, no matter what people in there might say otherwise. I have felt quite uncomfortable attending in jeans and a jumper before; if you want to fit in, get a pair of baggy jeans from Affleck's Palace in Mancester and take a trip to Halfords for a chunky bike chain to hang from them. I won't go too much into the music as this is to everyone's individual taste. However, the music seems to induce anyone with long hair ...  Read the complete review
