Advantages: Nice surroundings and service
Disadvantages: Food very disappointing.
We popped in for a meal at 7pm on a Tuesday. The surroundings are excellent, clean and tasteful. It certainly doesn't feel "pubby".
We ordered our drinks and got Red when we asked for White. The glass for the mineral water was dirty so was returned to the bar. Every alternative glass was equally dirty. Finally the problem was resolved by using a wine glass (these don't go through the mechanical glass washer apparently.
We were served by a very polite and engaging waiter who wasn't overbearing. In fact he struck a perfect balance.
The food came in good time. The portions were generous but not too much. However, the quality of the food was below mediocre. The burger was quite bland. The steak, which had been ordered as rare came very well done. To be fair, they took it back without quibble and promptly brought the replacement. This, at first glance, appeared to be what I ordered. Sadly, it was like chewing an old boot.
The staff did their best but We won't be going back to see if they can better it.
All-in-all, this was a big disappointment.
Surroundings 8/10
Service 8/10
Food 2/10.
Summary: Disappointing.
