For dining, the best place and at night the atmosphere is pleasant.

The Plough (Harborne, Birmingham) - Reasonable pricing, great atmosphere It's a 15 minute walk from my house.
Baa Bar (Manchester) - cheap drinks, good atmosphere
The Bell Inn (Tong, Shropshire) - Cheap, very varied menu and extensive specials board. Some surly staff, confusion over reservations, hit and miss table service.
The Queensway (Lytham St Annes) - All you can eat salad, nice updated decor Food presentation poor, hit and miss service
Head of the River (Oxford) - Great location with big outdoor terrace that overlooks the river Can be expensive and gets very crowded
