After staying with friends and visiting quite a few pubs it is fair to say that I was wanting something a bit different and my friend suggested 'La Hind' an Indian restaurant in Milton Keynes. First impressions upon arriving at this restaurant was that it was just what I was looking for and was surely going to offer a welcome change from some of the many pubs that we had visited in the previous week or so. I was not to be disappointed and left feeling like we'd had the best night out of the trip so far and would happily return again the next night even with no qualms at all about finding something different to enjoy on the next visit.
The restaurant is well laid out with ample space between the tables to be able to get up and wonder off to the toilets or to be served by your waiter without feeling like they were just cramming in as many people as possible. There was some lovely Indian music playing in the background which helped to give the restaurant a fantastic ambience that I just love about Indian restaurants. It's warming, welcoming and homely and within just a few minutes I found myself transported back to my time holidaying in India and some of the wonderful things I encountered there. I love it when a meal out can take you somewhere and remind you of places you haven't been to or thought about for years.
The waiting staff were very attentive, they seemed to have just the right knack at knowing when to come over and offer service without being in your face or constantly pestering you which some places just don't seem to have. This always gives a more enjoyable service for me as I don't feel like I have to worry about saying short sentences just incase the waiter pops up again or take small mouthfuls of food just to avoid having to nod my thanks with my mouthful!
The menu offers a whole variety of Indian foods and there really should be something here for everyone, regardless of the kind of spice that you like. I was very pleased with some of the items on the menu that I hadn't seen for a long time and was more than happy to go with the Chefs recommendation which was a wonderful Chicken Makhani which was not overly spiced but had flavours that seemed to go on forever in my mouth. Everything was cooked wonderfully and the choice was just fantastic. We had a little wait for the food but then this is to be expected if something is being cooked fresh as it all appeared to have been.
The look and feel of this restaurant are fantastic, you feel like you are being transported somewhere wonderful without paying an extravagant price to match the decor and the feeling. The prices were very reasonable for a sit down Indian meal and the drinks were quite reasonably priced too, no more so than many other Indian restaurants I've visited in my time anyway.
We were so pleased with the quality of the food that we had here that on our last night with friends we actually ordered from their takeaway service also. While we waited for the food to be prepared we were given a complimentary soft drink each and we also received free poppadoms which is always a very nice touch. I found this pleasing and the takeaway food was just as yummy as the food we ate in the restaurant and it's always nice to have such high quality takeaway food in your own home without paying a small fortune for it.
I can think of nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. The service was fantastic with friendly, polite and attentive staff that did not go overboard. The food was delicious and everything we had was timed well so that all of us had hot dinners served at the same time with ease and grace. There was ample table room for all the accompaniments that we had ordered and we didn't end up feeling squished in to the table either which is always very nice! The toilets were also in excellent condition in this restaurant which I always feel says a lot about an establishment as they really do care about their guests and ensuring that everything is clean and hygienic.
