Advantages: Good Night Out, lots of nice female students!
Disadvantages: None! (Cept when you get drunk and fall out of a tree afterwards!)
Ok, I have been frequenting the Limelight for over two years now from when I just turned 18 years of age. Up until a month ago the Limelight has always been a little dingy club with a lot of character as it always looked like a real hole. But as of February 2nd the Limelight opened its doors again after one month of renovations and now it is on par (condition wise) with other top clubs in belfast.
If you're into alternative / indie music the Limelight is the place for you. It has three main nights during the week, Tuesday nights which is student night and is called "SHAG" and is only £2 admission, which is well worth it as the percentage of female students is quite high indeed :-). The DJ on Tuesdays is Phil Kieran, who Im afraid does not have a lot of Alternative / indie songs in his collection so he usually turns to playing the same set practically every week which gets a bit repetitive!
Friday nights is "DISCO A GO GO" and features disco music from the 70s and 80s and 90s. The DJ on this night can alter but it usually makes a good fun night all round.
Saturday nights is known as "HELTER SKELTER", and is my own personal favourite night, especially after a day at work and a week at university, I can get really drunk, listen to good music and be surrounded by beautiful women! The DJ's on this night are alternated everyweek between three people, namely Phil, Jimmy and Pat, who each have their own style, plus all three are always open to requests and always willing to play any cd's that you bring along yourself (maybe not phil depending on what mood he's in)!
The club also holds a lot of gigs, a lot of top bands and solo artists have played there including Reef, Oasis, Blur, Paul Weller and also the upcoming Badly Drawn Boy gig.
They also let a lot of unsigned bands play, some of which are really good, for example - Go Commando, Blind Eyed View, Honey For Christ.
9;re in Belfast for a short period, it is a must see, I'd recommend it to anyone!
