Advantages: Wide range of beers
Disadvantages: Can be a bit pricey
YORK'S premier real ale pub is situated a short walk from the railway station. Turn left at the front of the station, cross at the pelican, follow the path under the city wall and the pub lies between the two large Norwich Union office buildings. There are usually more than half a dozen real ales on offer, Black Sheep being their regular offering. The pub also has premium Belgian lagers on offer as well as fruit wines and range of real ciders. Please don't ask for a pint of John Smith's Smooth or anything similar as a punch on the nose from Landlord Sean Collinge can often cause offence! Also worthy of note is the Dragon's Pantry - the catering side of the establishment. This must be one of the few pubs that actually take a knife to a potato to make a chip - and you can taste the difference! The pub regularly holds mini beer festivals with a vast range of beers available - usually held over a weekend. For more details of the Maltings and to find out what beers are currently available visit their website at www.maltings.co.uk. Unfortunately a set of steep steps at the door would make wheelchair access difficult.

danglefox - 17.04.01 Got to agree with davehughes44. A great pub. Bags of atmosphere. Full of individuals enjoying great ale. It had a folk two piece when I was there. You could listen to them, but still talk if you wanted to. A bit short on seating I guess, but recommended |
