On walking into the pub
I have only ever been to this pub on an afternoon and I was really shocked to see bouncers on the door and all round the pub, I have never seen this before in any pub through the day. They are pretty strict too and I have seen them turn people away for wearing jogging bottoms, which I find a little bit stupid.
When you walk though the doors the pub looks pretty posh, it has all dark brown laminated flooring and plenty of seating areas, the bar goes all the way round the pub. The pub has about three different sections of the lower floor, and then you can go up some stairs, and you have another smaller seating area. Then you have a door that leads outside to a massive outdoor seating area. There are loads of benches to sit on.
The pub is pretty large and you will always find somewhere to sit. I have seen fruit machines there, however I have never seen a pool table or a darts board there, so its not much of a gaming pub.
There is usually 4 or 5 members of staff serving at one time, and they do tend to get around to you pretty quickly. They do not seem to try and strike up a conversation with you, but they do take your order quickly and politely. They always seem to be very polite and use their manners but maybe would be a little better if they did try to make conversation, although they are also very polite with your children who I have taken here on several occasions.
For a pint of cider in here it cost me £3.10 and for a pint of lager it costs £3, not I have also bought blackcurrant and soda water in here for my kids and that cost just 40p so the prices are pretty reasonable.
Well as I have only gone here thought the day I have never seen what the entertainment is like so I can not comment on it, but I am sure if you rang up they would tell you what entertainment they have on.
This is the only reason I went into this pub was to take my kids for something to eat. I ordered the steak pie with chips and gravy, you also got peas with it but I asked for it without peas as I do not like vegetables. The steak pie cost me £4.95 and was a generous piece of pie, the crust was nicely cooked just right without been overcooked, so the pastry tasted nice and crispy, there was big chunks of steak in the pie, with a small bit of gravy in the pie, normally I would like a lot of gravy inside the pie, but I had gravy over my plate anyway so this did not bother me.
There was also quite a large portion of chips on the plate. I did feel I got more chips as I did not have veg. The chips were a nice golden brown colour and tasted really nice. I would recommend trying their food in here I really enjoyed it.
These are situated up some stairs, to be honest they are not the sort of toilets I would like to go to if I had been drinking, as the stairs to go up to the toilets are pretty steep. The toilets are however clean and always well stocked up with 3 toilet cubicles and two sinks, I have not found myself having to queue yet for the toilets, although on a busy night that may be different.
Suitable for wheelchairs
Not at all, the pub is filled with steps everywhere, and there is steps to get up to the toilet. You can not even get to the beer garden outside as even if you go to it through the back way there is steps there also.
Why you may like it
* Good food
* Kids allowed in
* Plenty of seats
* Big beer garden
Why you may not like it
* Toilets up steep stairs
* Not suitable for disabled
* No daytime entertainment
My overall opinion
This is only a pub I ever go into to take my kids for something to eat, they seem to like it and the place does do really nice food. I have never had any complaints about this pub yet, and I like the big beer garden outside too as it means that the kids can have a run about for a while.
This is not somewhere I would go on a night out normally but for through the day with the kids it is a good place to go to get out of the house for a while. I would recommend anyone to go here with their kids for something to eat, as I am sure you will really enjoy it.
